Must read for all employees.

1. New Employee Paperwork
All new employees complete the following forms:
- Application
- WH-4 Form: State Withholding
- W-4 Form: Federal Withholding
- I-9: State Eligibility Form
- Photo ID or Driver's License
- Copy of Social Security Card
- Copy of Auto Insurance Card, drivers only
Instructions for forms
- State Withholding Form (WH-4)
- Enter your Social Security number.
- Enter the amount of exemptions you want to claim.
- Claiming 0 withholds the greatest amount of taxes.
- Claiming 1 or more withholds less tax, if allowed.
- Federal Withholding Form (W-4)
- Fill out your personal information including Social Security number.
- Enter the amount of exemptions you want to claim.
Delivery drivers
- All drivers must provide a copy of their insurance and driver's license.
- Drivers must provide a copy of their official driving record from the DMV.
2. Company Policies
Equal employment opportunity
We are committed to equal employment opportunity and do not discriminate against employees or applicants in a manner that violates the law.
This policy applies to recruitment, hiring, assignments, promotions, working conditions, scheduling, benefits, pay, discipline, and termination.
We do not tolerate unlawful discrimination. Employees who believe a violation has occurred should report it to the General Manager.
We also comply with disability discrimination laws and provide reasonable accommodations when requested, unless doing so would create an undue hardship.
Employee uniforms
- Uniforms consist of a company shirt, a company hat, a kitchen apron, clean pants or shorts, and shoes.
- Each employee receives two company shirts and one hat. Additional shirts may be purchased.
- Company shirts and hats must be returned at termination.
- Pants or shorts are the employee's responsibility and must be clean and in good repair.
Acceptable pants and shorts:
- Black pants
- Khaki pants
- Khaki or black shorts at fingertip length
- Blue jeans
Unacceptable pants and shorts:
- Jeans with holes
- Basketball shorts
- Joggers
- Leggings
- Sweatpants
- Colored pants other than black or khaki
Acceptable shoes:
- Tennis shoes
- Boots, snow or rain
Unacceptable shoes:
- Open-toed shoes
- Sandals
- Crocs
Headphones, AirPods, earbuds, or similar devices may not be worn while on the clock.
Personal hygiene
- Report illness to a manager before your shift.
- Long hair must be restrained and covered by the hat.
- Keep jewelry to a minimum for food safety.
- Employees must be adequately clean and showered for each shift.
Hand washing
Hands must be washed before handling food, after using the restroom, and after cleaning.
- Use warm running water to wet hands and forearms.
- Apply soap and build a lather.
- Scrub hands and arms for 20 seconds, including fingertips and under fingernails.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- Dry hands and arms with a clean paper towel or hand dryer.
- Use a paper towel to turn off the faucet.
Gloves and money handling
- Gloves are required when handling uncooked food items.
- Wash hands before using gloves.
- Change gloves periodically during the shift.
- Cuts, wounds, or open sores on hands and arms must be covered with a bandage and gloves.
- After handling money, wash hands before handling or serving food.
Schedule, punctuality, and breaks
- The schedule is posted by Friday at 4:00 pm for the next week.
- If you cannot work a scheduled shift, you must find a replacement and get manager approval.
- You must get permission to miss a shift or be late.
- You may be required to bring a doctor's note for an excused illness.
- No Call, No Show is against company policy and can result in termination.
- Employees must work their entire shift.
- Requests for schedule changes must be submitted 10 days in advance through the When I Work app.
- Do not clock in early unless approved.
- Be ready to work at your scheduled time.
- Employees park in the designated employee area.
- Minors receive breaks according to law. Adults do not receive scheduled breaks but may go on break with manager permission.
- Smoking breaks are not allowed.
Meals, phones, and conduct
- Employees receive 40% off food, except wings and drinks.
- Cell phones and personal electronic devices are not permitted during working hours.
- Store phone use and personal calls are allowed only in an emergency or with manager approval.
- Negative or critical social media posts about customers, coworkers, supervisors, or the company are not allowed.
- Employees may not loiter behind the counter or ride with delivery drivers.
- If you have time to lean, you have time to clean.
Discipline
Depending on the violation and past performance, discipline may include:
- Verbal warning
- Written warning
- Termination
Serious behavior may result in immediate termination. This includes theft, intimidation, rudeness to a customer, harassment, and No Call, No Show.
Employment is at-will and may be suspended or terminated with or without notice.
Smoking and tobacco
- Smoking and chewing tobacco are not permitted by employees or customers on the premises.
Vacation, sick leave, pay, and injuries
- Hourly employees are not entitled to paid vacation.
- Managers earn 5 paid vacation days per 6 months of completed employment.
- Sick leave is unpaid, but FMLA rules are respected.
- Employees are paid every Friday.
- Report any work injury to a manager immediately.
- Report customer injuries immediately and document the incident.
Security, theft, and holidays
- Cash drops should be made regularly on busy shifts.
- In a robbery, stay calm, do not resist, and give the robber the money.
- Obtain a description and call 911 after the robber leaves.
- Theft includes taking food, cash, tips, discounts, or product without permission.
- The store is generally open every day of the year and employees are expected to work during the holiday season as scheduled.
Open door and miscellaneous policies
- Employees may bring concerns to their manager or next highest manager.
- Policies may be updated from time to time.
- If you are unsure, ask a manager or supervisor.
3. Company Data Collection Policy
Purpose and scope
Halls Kitchen is committed to treating information from employees, customers, stakeholders, and other interested parties with care and confidentiality.
This policy applies to employees, contractors, consultants, partners, and any external entity that handles company information.
Data handling rules
Company data must be:
- Accurate and kept up to date
- Collected fairly and for lawful purposes only
- Processed within legal and moral boundaries
- Protected against unauthorized or illegal access
Company data must not be:
- Communicated informally
- Transferred to organizations or countries without adequate data protection policies
- Used for personal gain or personal use
Security and discipline
We restrict and monitor access to sensitive data, train employees in privacy and security, and use clear breach-reporting and protection procedures.
Violations of this policy can result in discipline, termination, and possibly legal action.
4. Proper Food Etiquette
- Employees must not eat in front of customers.
- Employees must not eat toppings from the makeline.
- Eating food without paying for it is treated as theft and can result in termination.
5. Tip Pool
- Managers are not part of the tip pool.
- Managers do not share in the tip jar.
- The tip pool is for non-manager employees.
- Tip pool payouts are made weekly on the paycheck.
6. Lost Checks
- Lost paychecks have a $25 cancellation fee.
- There is also a $25 reissue fee for a new paycheck.
7. Alcohol and Substance Abuse Policy
Purpose
Hall's Kitchen is concerned with providing a safe, healthy, and productive work environment.
Alcohol
- Possession, consumption, purchase, or sale of alcohol on company premises is prohibited.
- Employees may not be under the influence of alcohol while performing company business.
- Drivers or anyone in safety-sensitive roles may be terminated if found driving under the influence.
Legal drugs
- Employees taking legal drugs that might impair safety, performance, or motor functions must advise a supervisor before reporting to work.
- A physician certification may be requested for the personnel file.
Illegal drugs
- Use, purchase, sale, transfer, possession, or being under the influence of illegal drugs is prohibited on company premises or while performing company business.
Any violation of this policy is grounds for termination.
8. Customer Service
Core values
